Trauma responses can be confusing
After a controlling or emotionally abusive relationship, you may have intrusive memories, nightmares, strong reactions to reminders, avoidance, numbness, irritability, or a feeling that you are always waiting for the next thing to go wrong. Some people recognize these as trauma responses. Others only know that they no longer feel like themselves.
Only a qualified clinician can diagnose PTSD after a careful assessment. You do not need a diagnosis to seek help for symptoms that are making daily life feel harder.
The impact deserves care
Narcissistic abuse can involve chronic invalidation, unpredictability, isolation, threats, or emotional control. A long pattern of having to monitor another person can affect sleep, concentration, confidence, and the ability to feel safe in close relationships.
Therapy can offer a steady place to understand how those experiences are showing up in the present. We can work at a pace that does not ask you to relive everything before you have support in place.
A careful path forward
Trauma-informed therapy can include building grounding skills, identifying triggers, working with painful beliefs, and creating more room for connection and choice. The focus is not on forcing one kind of healing. It is on helping you feel more anchored in your own life.
Jami offers virtual therapy for Florida adults healing from narcissistic abuse, emotional abuse, and relationship trauma.
